DES MOINES, Iowa — Brittney Reese matched her world-leading mark in the long jump on Thursday night, adding an NCAA championship to an already impressive junior season at Mississippi.

The 21-year-old from Gulfport, Miss., soared 22 feet, 9 inches on her third attempt at sunny Drake Stadium, matching the mark she had April 19 in Baton Rouge, La. Karin Mey of Russia also has gone 22-9 this year.

Reese has established herself as one of the favorites for the U.S. Olympic trials that begin in two weeks in Eugene, Ore. She made the U.S. team at last year's world championships, making it to the finals and finishing eighth.

Reese was second to Rhonda Watkins of UCLA at last year's NCAAs. Watkins aggravated a right hamstring injury on her first jump Thursday and withdrew from the competition.
