DES MOINES, Iowa — Ashton Eaton announced his arrival at the NCAA championships on Wednesday. The Oregon sophomore took the first-day lead in the decathlon, scoring a personal-best 4,289 points to take a 51-point lead over Jangy Addy behind a record-setting performance in the 400 meters. Eaton, running in a heavy rainstorm, set an NCAA meet record for the decathlon with a time of 47.25 seconds, a full second better than the rest of the field.
