Wheating takes second in 800 in photo finish | Track and Field with Curtis Anderson and Ron Bellamy

UO sophomore Andrew Wheating sliced 1 1/2 seconds off his PR, but came up agonizingly short in his quest for an NCAA title in the 800 meters on Saturday.

Wheating closed strong over the final 50 meters to nearly overtake Texas’ Jacob Hernandez, who won the race in an impressive wire-to-wire performance at 1:45.31. Wheating was second in 1:45.32, the third-best time in UO history. He trails Joaquim Cruz (1:41.77, 1984) and Wade Bell (1:45.17, 1967).
