EUGENE, Ore. -- Florida junior Fawn Miller capped off a stellar first day of competition for the Gators at the NCAA Track & Field Championships with a national title in the javelin throw, using a PR of 58.13m/190-8 on her second attempt to claim Florida’s first national championship on the women’s side since 2010.
Miller’s first-place finish – the best collegiate mark this year, No. 9 all-time and No. 2 in UF history – put the Gators on the board with 10 points, good for third place in women’s action after day one. Junior Stipe Zunic’ssixth-place finish in the shot put (19.67/64-6.5) gave Florida three points and knotted the Gators at a tie for 16th.
The Orange and Blue kicked off the 2014 NCAA Championships with a bang on the track as well Wednesday at Historic Hayward Field, qualifying both 4x1 relays and six individuals – four Florida men and two Gator women – for finals of their respective events. Read the full article at: www.gatorzone.com
